MMB Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
Mission: We want to help grow and sustain a diverse and inclusive work environment that reflects the communities we come from, the clients we serve, and the growth needed in our industry.
INITIATIVES
- Education: Educate our employees on past and current issues. This includes a quarterly newsletter that highlights diversity in the accounting profession as well as in our community. This also includes formal trainings such as an unconscious bias training, so that we as a firm can identify and address hidden biases that can influence workplace decisions.
- Recruitment: As a firm, continue to support World of Accounting (WOA) and Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) as these programs introduce accounting to minority students while also promoting our firm. Committee members will also be present during other firm recruitment events to help highlight the diversity we have at MMB.
- Community Service: In addition to Day of Caring, we plan to participate in community fundraising and school events that will provide an opportunity to introduce students to the accounting profession.
- Scholarship: The MMB Accounting Diversity Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to minority students seeking to pursue a career in accounting, as this field has been historically underrepresented by the minority community.
2023 MMB Accounting Diversity Scholarship
The MMB Accounting Diversity Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to minority students seeking to pursue a career in accounting, as this field has been historically underrepresented by the minority community. We want to help change those statistics and help students work towards their dreams.
MMB awards two, annually renewable $2,000 per-year scholarships, as well as an opportunity to receive a paid accounting internship during the student’s junior or senior year of college. The scholarship can be renewed up to five years, with a maximum total award of $10,000 per recipient.

This year, the Rochester Business Journal honored companies who have taken steps to improve their DEI programs by launching the Best Places to Work for DEI awards. MMB is honored to have been recognized as one of the five companies selected within the community.
As you know, MMB takes great pride in their efforts to grow and sustain a diverse and inclusive work environment. With a very active Diversity & Inclusion Committee, their initiatives include education, recruitment, community service and scholarship. This year we were able to award another round of Accounting Diversity Scholarships to deserving students to help provide financial assistance to minority students looking to pursue a career in accounting.
Through the work of the DEI Committee and the Firm as a whole, we are continually pushing to improve DEI efforts in our business community and we congratulate the other four companies who are right there with us. Read the full article HERE.
